Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Is my hyperthyroidism serious? Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Your blood tests (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity) show you have hyperthyroidism. It means your thyroid gland is producing more thyroid hormones. We need to know if you have any related symptoms like palpitations, tremors or shaking hands, increased appetite, weight loss, anxiety, or hyperactivity. I would also like to know, do your eyes look more prominent? Do you smoke? Do you feel any pain or swelling over your front neck? Once we know you have an overactive thyroid, can find the cause. It can be thyroiditis which can be temporary overactivity. In this case, you may have painful swelling over the neck. Or it can be due to autoimmune Grave's disease or multiplied lumps in the thyroid.
To differentiate between causes, we may need to do the following:

Patient's Query
Thank you for your reply doctor.
I do have symtpoms.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I would suggest:
1. Tablet Propranolol 20 mg twice daily for three weeks.
2. Tablet Neomercazole 30 mg once daily for four weeks.
Then do your thyroid function tests to review. These medications may cause rashes or if you have any sore throat, consult the doctor. Once your thyroid function tests are normal, you may need radioiodine ablation as permanent treatment, or you can continue the medications for a long time.
Thank you.
