Can a high lipid profile cause heart pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have pain in my heart and left arm. Could you please explain my ECG report and lipid profile? I am attaching them.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have reviewed the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your ECG is normal, but the lipid profile is deranged. Considering your age, the likelihood of heart disease being the cause of the pain is low. However, it cannot be completely ruled out, as you have the risk factor of hyperlipidemia. I am unsure about your smoking habits or family history. The next step would be to undergo a treadmill test. If the test results are negative, it will reliably rule out a cardiac cause.

For hyperlipidemia, you should focus on aggressive lifestyle modifications, including a low-fat, low-oil, and low-sugar diet. Ensure regular daily exercise and avoid alcohol consumption. Additionally, it would be good to check your blood pressure. The pain could also be due to acidity or gastritis, particularly if you experience upper abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, burping, increased pain after eating, sour taste in the throat, or chest burning.

Please let me know if you have neck pain, tingling or numbness in your arm, or any trauma to your neck, as these could suggest a cervical spine issue as the cause of the pain.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
