What is the best treatment for chronic inflammation due to HSV types 1 and 2?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 36-year-old female weighing 206 pounds. I have had chronic inflammation due to HSV types 1 and 2. I am having severe shooting headaches and muscle aches due to it. Currently, I am taking tablets Naproxen, Gabapentin, and Valtrex. What is the best treatment for chronic inflammation due to HSV 1 and 2?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Do you have the reports for HSV (herpes simplex virus) and inflammatory markers like ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP (C-reactive protein), and ferritin? These parameters help assess the cause. I suggest you continue the tablet Naproxen SOS and also take tablet Vitamin E and tablet Duloxetine 20 mg per day and increase the dose every two weeks to reach 60 mg per day. I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I do not have access to my files. I have had severe nerve pain in my legs and lower back for the last three months. I also have a severe headache. I got a CT scan of my head, but it was normal. I sometimes have blisters on my lips. Is there any other solution to my problems?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

HSV is an acute illness and does not cause symptoms once the acute infection resolves. Therefore, antivirals are given only when the patient undergoes an organ transplant or chemotherapy. Duloxetine will help with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
