Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
For some years now, I have noticed spotting for a week before my menstruation starts, and during other months, menstruation starts, normally without spotting. I went to see my general practitioner, and he recommended a scan and a blood test. The result showed a hormonal imbalance. So the doctor gave me a contraceptive pill. I cannot remember the name now. He said it would help regulate my hormones.
I got married one year ago and now trying to conceive, but to no avail, so I started tracking my ovulation day by marking my cycle. Then I realized that in a month, my cycle could be for 32 days (the time I experience spotting), and some months my cycle goes for 27 or 28 days (the time I experience no spotting).
Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Hormonal imbalance can be of many types, and we have to treat it according to the cause. Here you have not mentioned your reports, but hormonal contraceptives also react to the body's hormonal imbalance. Your cycles are still not regular. Are you on contraceptives now? If not on contraceptives better to have retesting of hormones to see how much correction is done or need medications to correct it. On day two of the menstrual cycle, have blood tests (serum testosterone, serum insulin, serum luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, serum progesterone, thyroid function test). A transvaginal scan is also needed to exclude any pathology. Check for any abnormal growth of hair or sudden weight gain. Consult with your doctor before taking medication. Have a Tablet of Folic acid daily 0.4 mg. A healthy diet with less salt, sugar, oil, and spice with daily exercise to reduce weight to have a normal BMI (body mass index). Have sex in the fertile period of your cycle. Follow the scan and laboratory and discuss them here or with your local gynecologist.
Thank you.
