Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
What steps should I take to protect myself from infectious diseases like HIV and AIDS? I am 25 years old and a virgin, and I have heard that these infections can be transmitted through blood and other bodily fluids. Recently, an employee who is infected with HIV came to my office to apply for a job, although I am unsure whether she will be selected. I feel deeply sorry for her, especially since she contracted the infection from her parents. My concern is whether the toilet or washroom she uses could pose a risk of infection to others who use it afterward. What precautions should be taken when working with colleagues who have immunocompromised conditions? I care about my health and well-being, and I want to support her without putting myself at risk.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is not transmitted through food, water, shaking hands, sharing objects, engaging in common daily activities, or using shared toilets. It is transmitted through infected blood or secretions that come into contact with blood, through sexual intercourse, or via the parenteral route, such as injections or intravenous drug use.
It is reassuring to know that you are working with individuals living with HIV. Please ensure that any broken skin or mucous membranes do not come into contact with infected blood or fluids. Contact with intact skin is not a concern, as intact skin serves as an effective barrier against HIV.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you want some help.
Thank you.
