Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 26-year-old male, and I had unprotected anal sex with a man of unknown HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) status one month back. After six days, I developed left-side neck pain and the next day sore throat with both side neck pain or lymph node pain, fever, and left groin pain, and it lasted for a few days with oral ulcers. Then, after two weeks, I had a burning sensation in my left groin, left side of my hip, buttocks, and left hip joint pain. Then for the next two days, I had pain in both armpits and sides of the groin. I took medicines for the same, and everything went down in one day. But the mild pain in the left groin persisted for two weeks.
I have been depressed for the last four weeks and feel fatigued. After two weeks of exposure, I consulted a doctor and explained my signs and history. They took VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) or RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) test, and the result was non-reactive. Occasionally I feel like I have calf muscle pain, fatigue, sore throat, TMJ (Temperomandibular Joint) pain, and a burning sensation on the left side of the hip. Is it because of HIV infection? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern. The chances of transmission of human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV) by a single unprotected intercourse with a person who is positive for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection is low. If the person is HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) negative, there is no chance of getting the disease. The symptoms are nonspecific and need not be due to human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV). It can be due to any other infection or anxiety. You can do an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) antibodies test. If the result is negative, you can go for an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) antibodies test after three months of exposure. I hope I was helpful to you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your response.
I have done a Tridot HIV antibody test on the 28th day. Is that accurate, or does it need to be repeated?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is good that the HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) antibodies test is negative. The chances of HIV tests coming positive later are almost nil. But it is better to go for an HIV antibodies test after three months of exposure.
Thank you.
