Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My 72-year-old mother had surgery on her right hip four months ago. I have enclosed the x-ray taken after surgery. The right hip is fine now. However, there is stiffness and pain in the left hip and also difficulty in walking. Kindly have a look at the x-ray and let me know the problem with her left hip. What is the treatment option for the pain in the left hip? Is surgery required? If yes, then what kind of surgery?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I am sorry to hear about your mother's problem, and I hope to help you. I have seen the x-ray (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), and there appears to be arthritis of the left hip, and it will need replacement of the hip joint as this is the best option for her age.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
Would you please give a little detail about what is involved in replacing the hip joint? Also, what is the exact medical name for this procedure?
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
A prosthesis replaces both the socket and the ball. Many brands are manufacturing prostheses. However, I prefer the one which is imported as their quality is better. Another thing is the kind of material you choose; it may be poly or ceramic. This procedure is called arthroplasty of the hip.
Thanks for asking.
Regards.
