Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Are triglycerides, lymphocytes, and ESR out of range? Please check and confirm whether any other values need to be verified.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your cholesterol and triglyceride levels are high, which will increase the risk of cardiac and cerebrovascular disease. To reduce the risks, you can make some healthy lifestyle habits such as:
1. Improve your fitness by doing aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, and running.
2. Having a low-fat and high-fiber diet.
3. Avoid junk foods and diets high in fat.
4. Taking Omega 3 fatty acid-rich foods (fish fat - sardines, mackerel) will help to reduce triglycerides up to 40 %.
5. Drugs that help to reduce cholesterol are statins (Atorvastatin 10 mg, Simvastatin, etc.) and fibrates (Fenofibrate 160 mg).
Also, your TSH level is on the higher end. So, If you have any symptoms of hypothyroidism (weight gain, hair loss, cold intolerance, etc.), you may need to take more of the drug Thyroxine 12.5 microgram. It is normal for your lymphocyte count to show some variations, and that does not require any treatment. Your ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) is high, but it is nonspecific. It may be elevated in cases of infection or inflammation (any skeletal muscular disease, lung pathologies, etc.).
Consult your doctor and discuss the increased ESR significance.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Thank you, doctor, for the reply,
I am enquiring on behalf of my mother. My 62-year-old mother is a vegetarian, so I believe that walking and eating chapatis and vegetables is a good way to lower cholesterol and triglycerides.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern, and I suggest you take more fruits, vegetables, oats, nuts, barley, other whole grains, and fiber-rich vegetables. Replace butter with vegetable oils like sunflower and safflower oil. You can take fruits like apples, strawberries, grapes, etc. Taking beans (rich in soluble fiber) helps reduce fat absorption.
