Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I got blood work through the doctor. Lymphocytes were high. Last year it was 7.3 lymphocytes/mcL and comparatively less this year, 5.6 lymphocytes/mcL. Still, I am concerned about why it is not reduced.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
According to the given medical history, your absolute lymphocyte count is high. If it is persistently high, use flow cytometry to rule out the possibility of the monoclonal nature of elevated lymphocytes. However, before proceeding, you can do a peripheral blood smear to screen for the existence of any abnormal lymphoid cells. Please provide your peripheral blood smear or flow cytometry results, if available. You can discuss all these with your treating doctor.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Kindly review the attached report. I am quite concerned about the blood test report.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Your total count is normal in the attached report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Mentioned morphology of cells is also standard. The only abnormal finding is lymphocyte count elevation. However, it appears to be a reactive lymphocyte increase caused by an inflammatory or infection. However, as the report advises, repeat your CBC (complete blood count) after one month. If your lymphocyte count still comes high, investigate with a flow cytometry report to rule out lymphoma as a minor remote possibility. I suggest you consult a hematologist (healthcare providers who specialize in diseases of the blood and blood components) nearby for a physical examination and discuss all these. Do not worry.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
My lymphocyte count has been abnormal for the past two years. The doctor had asked me to take flow cytometry. Flow cytometry has been performed, but the doctor is on leave now. Could you kindly evaluate and update me on anything significant?
Hello,
Welcome back to the icliniq.
I understand your concern.
Flow cytometry (is the measurement of the number and characteristics of cells) data indicate reactive lymphocytosis. So it does not appear to be a lymphoma (a cancer of the lymphatic system) or chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) like blood malignancy. Please discuss this with your hematologist when he investigates the cause of reactive lymphocytosis. I recommend taking Serum ANA (antinuclear antibody) to rule out autoimmune illness and HIV CMIA (human immunodeficiency virus, chemiluminescence microparticle immunoassay). After your checkup, your hematologist will schedule further testing. The attached flow cytometry data indicate reactive lymphocytosis, so you do not have to be concerned.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Are you saying that it is neither lymphoma nor leukemia? As I am worried since receiving my results.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
No, It does not signify lymphoma or lymphoid leukemia. Please discuss this with your hematologist once he returns.
