What is the treatment for hepatitis B infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am infected with hepatitis B, and I have tried all kinds of drugs, but no result. But, someone asked to use extracts from the bitter leaf have been demonstrated to offer protection against hepatitis B and C. To extract, squeeze 40 bitter leaves into four liters of water. Drink one glassful three times daily for two months. Do you think this can help, and if not, what will you recommend? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is no proven evidence that any extract can heal hepatitis B. According to the guidelines, hepatitis B is treated with anti-viral medications like Interferon and Lamivudine for an extended period. Follow up with liver enzymes and HBV (hepatitis B virus) DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) level to monitor response.

Please provide me with more details about your liver function tests and your medications.

I hope you find it helpful.

Regards.
