Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am having an issue with my menstruation. Last month I got my periods which stopped after two days and then again I got my periods which are lasting even now. It is really heavy and I need a big pack of napkins in a day. I am having heavy bleeding and I am worried. I do not know what to do.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query.
Did you get your period on time or was it overdue? If overdue, then check serum beta hCG (blood pregnancy test). If the blood pregnancy test is negative then for heavy periods you can have tablet Ponstan 500 milligrams and tablet Tranexamic acid 500 milligrams eight hours once for three to five days to reduce bleeding. You can take the same medications for two to five days to reduce heavy bleeding.
If the pregnancy test is negative and the bleeding gets reduced after medications it is better to have a transvaginal scan, thyroid function test, and complete blood count. Collect your reports and discuss them here or with a gynecologist. I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below:
Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.
I hope this has helped you.
Thank you.
