What could cause headache, stomach ache, and vomiting in a 33-week pregnant female?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 33 weeks pregnant and have had a bad headache since two months. I am also suffering from pain in the stomach, vagina, and feet along with vomiting. I have tried many things including regular-strength Tylenol but the pain would not go away.

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Headache and epigastric pain could be signs of high blood pressure which is an alarming condition because it can cause complications in the fetus like restricted growth, developmental defects, and in severe cases intrauterine fetal death. The blood pressure of the mother must be monitored and it must be less than 120/80 mm of Hg. Other tests include complete blood count, urea, urine protein, creatinine, and electrolytes. The fetus should also be monitored electronically including a kick count. Some proven ways to reduce blood pressure are rest, proper sleep, walking, and avoiding salt and sugar. It is advisable to report to the nearest tertiary care that has a gynecology department to have a detailed check-up that includes blood tests and electronic fetal monitoring.

Hope this help.

Thanks and take care.
