Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I suffered a mild head injury six days ago. My ears got clogged after I hit my head. They still feel clogged, and I have occasional pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear. As a result, I have had hearing loss for a few years. Is this something that can happen after a head injury? I asked about it when I was in the ER.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As you said, your hearing loss before the incident is called presbycusis. Recent trauma of yours has caused a subarachnoid hemorrhage in the temporal region on the right side. The temporal lobe is mainly responsible for your hearing and its processing. Do you have clogged ears even now? The other possibility would be a concussion in your inner ear. Your complaints should resolve in some amount of time

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

The hearing loss is in my left ear, where I experience pulsatile tinnitus. This is also the side of my injury. The right ear is alright. Also, can I take any painkillers since I had bleeding? How long will it take for it to heal? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The differential diagnosis for your condition can be: 1. Concussion in your inner ear should resolve in 20 to 30 days. 2. Clogged wax in your ear canal is also known to cause blocked sensation and tinnitus occasionally. You must visit your doctor to get your ears checked and wax removed. Tylenol is only enough for you as a painkiller, but still, if your pain persists, I suggest Aceclofenac will also help. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent. As you mentioned that you had bleeding, it should take around 15 to 20 days to heal. Even after two weeks, if you feel there is no improvement, please get pure tone audiometry, as it will help us know the cause of hearing loss.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
