Why is the skin around my fingertips turning brown?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a brown discoloration of the skin around my fingertips. What is the reason?

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I need some more information.

  1. Since when have you had this problem?
  2. Have you used any creams in the past?
  3. What is your occupation?
  4. Is it present on both hands?
  5. Is it associated with itching?
  6. Are you on any medications at present?

It will probably be fingertip eczema. I suggest using an intense moisturizing cream applied twice daily to the tips of the fingers. Avoid frequent contact with detergent, and always keep your hands moisturized.

I hope this has helped you.

Please feel free to contact me again in case you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have had this problem for about a week. I work in a warehouse. I do not have any associated itching. I am taking Losartan. It is just on my left hand. What is fingertip eczema?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is basically dryness of the particular part due to an allergic reaction to a certain product. I suggest you follow a few things:

  1. Avoid frequent contact with water and detergent.
  2. Try using Venusia Max cream (moisturizer), two to three times a day.
  3. Elocon cream or Momate cream, once daily for ten days. It contains Mometasone, a mild steroid. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss the medicine with him or her, and start using the medicine after their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
