How to treat hair loss, dandruff, and lice issues?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have hair loss. Also, dandruff and lice are present. I am having a lot of stress and body heat as well.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Hair loss can be due to many causes, like androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium-stress induced, or thyroid disorders. You need a detailed evaluation and blood tests.

Are you losing more than 100 hair per day?

Do you have a family history of balding?

Was there any illness in the recent past?

For dandruff, use Ketoconazole and Salicylic acid combination shampoo twice a week for one month, then use it once a week for maintenance. For the rest of the day, use your regular shampoo.

However, I would like to give you some hair care tips here.

1. Always use lukewarm water for washing hair. Never use hot water.

2. Do not comb when hair is wet.

3. Do not use a hair dryer. Allow it to dry naturally after the bath.

4. Avoid hot iron straighteners; it breaks the protein bond in hair, making hair brittle.

5. Hair is made up of a protein called keratin. It would help if you take more protein daily, like eggs, fish, curd, milk, lentils, and chicken.

6. Regular exercise for 40 minutes a day, six days a week, helps to keep the hormonal balance intact.

7. Use a comb that has a wide space between each tooth, and the tip should be blunt. Comb gently.

8. Avoid smoking. Nicotine decreases blood supply to the hair roots, affecting hair growth.

9. Avoid tight ponytails; it would cause traction on hair, eventually leading to hair fall from the frontal area. Keep the hair loosely tied.

I hope this little piece of information is helpful to you.

Take care.
