Can herbal oils help in hair growth and prevent hair loss?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old male. I have had hair loss for one year, and whenever I use shampoo, my hands are full of hair strands. So, I started using a mixture of herbal oils two months ago. This helped in growing baby hairs, but the hair fall did not subside. I am thinking of using rosemary oil with peppermint oil. Should I continue the previous oil with this one? And how many times a week should I apply them? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There are several reasons for hair fall or thinning of hair on the scalp. Some of the common causes are nutritional deficiency and hormonal causes like androgenic alopecia, patterned baldness, hypothyroidism, and telogen effluvium. It is essential to find the underlying cause for proper treatment. Also, oils and shampoos do not have any effect on hair growth.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
