How to maintain gut health to improve digestion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been feeling a bit off in my gut and have noticed some bloating, occasional stomach cramps, and my digestion is not as smooth as it used to be. I have been hearing a lot about gut health and how it is connected to our overall well-being. Could these symptoms be related to my gut health? I have heard about something called the gut microbiota and would like to know what exactly is that, and how does it affect digestion? I have also been considering trying probiotics to see if they might help, but I'm not sure where to start. Are there specific strains or types of probiotics that are better for gut health? And are there certain foods I should be focusing on to support a healthy gut, or maybe foods I should avoid? Any tips on how I can improve my gut health and get my digestion back on track would be much appreciated. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.
