Why do inflamed gums under the denture not respond to medications?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had an old upper denture since I put it on about eight years ago. The gums in the right side of my mouth are inflamed about half inches on the inside. I have taken antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications, but it has not done any good. The gums are still inflamed, and I can feel it with my tongue. What could that be? Currently, I am taking blood pressure medications.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It is a physiological process in the bone that changes with age, and so does the alveolar bone on which the denture rests. Eight years is a long period. Do not worry; you need to see your dentist for necessary adjustments, and this swelling will go. Take the denture out and allow the bone to relieve pressure. You can use dentures during eating if you feel comfortable. Keep them out at night, and take a soft diet. Apply, Dologel-CT (Choline Salicylate and Lidocaine) twice daily for five days after consulting your doctor.
Thank you.
