Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Those symptoms are consistent with urethritis which is inflammation of the urethra due to sexually transmitted infections. With a history of yellow discharge, it is likely to be a gonococcal infection, but full screening is indicated. Investigations required are urethral swabs for gonococcal and chlamydial infections. Blood tests for syphilis, HSV (herpes simplex virus), hepatitis, and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). I would suggest you start tablet Cefuroxime 500 mg twice daily for seven days and tablet Metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for seven days. Please follow up with the investigation's result for further assessment. Please note to give test samples before you start antibiotics.

If you have any more queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

I had been drinking a lot of water and berry juice for the last three days. Today the pain is very less, and discharge also reduced. Can I start taking the antibiotics from today and go to do tests? Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can start taking antibiotics, but no need to do tests. I mean, tests are supposed to be done before, as antibiotics will affect the test results. If you do not do the tests, then the cause of this STD (sexually transmitted disease) will remain unknown. If you want to start antibiotics, then do not do the tests. But keep your follow-up and update me about your condition. But it is better to do the tests first for the diagnosis. Please avoid sex or sexual contact in the meanwhile. Your sexual partner is also supposed to have the same tests and treatment.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.
