Is glutathione effective in lightening the skin and fading dark patches on the face?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Will 500 mg of glutathione help make my skin fair and remove the dark patches on my cheeks, around my mouth, and the pigmentation on my lips? If not, can you suggest an oral medication and a topical cream for me to apply on my face to achieve a fairer complexion? Actually, my body is very fair, but my face has become dark since I was 10 years old. I want my facial complexion to match my body tone. Even though I use sun cream before going outside, products like Depiwhite, Glycolic Acid, Glolite, and Kojicvit have not worked for me. Please help me. Right now, my skin complexion is dark brown. I would be very thankful for your assistance.

Hi,

We welcome you to the icliniq family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

I understand your concern.

For good and glowing skin, ensure you get proper sleep and drink plenty of water. Avoid stepping out in the sun without wearing sunscreen. A nutritious diet rich in antioxidants, such as green vegetables and fresh fruits, and reducing stress can also help. Depending on your specific hyperpigmentation problem and skin type, a depigmenting cream or facewash may be recommended to improve your condition. Please provide two to three clear pictures of the affected area for accurate evaluation and guidance. Without these photographs, I am unable to comment on the diagnosis and provide specific treatment recommendations. Take Glutathione only under the care of a dermatologist as it can have side effects. It may or may not improve your skin complexion. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
