What worsens GERD symptoms despite quitting smoking?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a hiatal hernia that caused GERD. I have been suffering from difficulty breathing, chest pain, dizziness, and a headache for the past few days. Sometimes, when I breathe, I feel like I am not getting enough oxygen. I have also stopped smoking. But the symptoms are getting worse. Why so? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It seems the symptoms are due to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). So, I suggest you do an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. I also suggest you take a tablet of Pantoprazole (antacid) twice a day before food. Take Mucain (Aluminium hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, and Oxetacaine) gel syrup two teaspoons thrice daily after food. Get a PFT (pulmonary function test) done for the diagnosis of bronchitis.

Kindly consult a doctor, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
