Why is genital herpes recurring?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Why do I get recurrence of genital herpes as soon as I stop antiviral drugs?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It may be due to poor immune status, diabetes, drugs, or poor nutrition which may lead to decreased resistance to infection. If the sexual partner has it, then there is a chance of developing it.

I suggest applying Acivir (Acyclovir) gel locally and taking capsule Acivir 400 mg five times a day for one week. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent.
