What could be the reason for blisters after sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My partner was diagnosed with genital herpes six months ago. For the last two months, every time after sex, he breaks out in blisters, but I have no symptoms or blisters.

What could be the cause of this?

He is too embarrassed to go to a doctor.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and understand your concern.

With your descriptions, it seems your partner has herpes genitalis. Since you are not experiencing any symptoms of herpes, such as itching or burning, it means you have not acquired this. Please follow barrier contraceptive methods whenever your partner has lesions to protect yourself from this disease.

I would advise you to get your HSV IgM and IgG (herpes simplex virus immunoglobulin G and M) levels tested. Along with this, get hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis C virus (HCV), venereal disease research laboratory test (VDRL), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) tests, for both you and your partner.

If, on the investigation, it turns out herpes genitalis, then start tablet Acyclovir 400 milligrams three times a day and apply 5 % Acyclovir ointment twice daily for five days after consulting your doctor or nearby dermatologist.

Thank you.
