How to treat a ganglion cyst on the wrist without surgery?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 37 years old. I have had a ganglion cyst on the palm side of the wrist in my right hand for three months. The cyst is solid. This cyst does not cause any pain now. I have contacted a surgeon, and he has advised surgery on this cyst. I want to know the following:

  1. Is there any way except surgery?
  2. Like medicine?
  3. Is this cyst malignant?
  4. If it is operated, can it be further developed in the future?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Relax and do not worry. Yes, it is a ganglion cyst. It is very common and not malignant. It will not regress with medicines. It requires surgical removal as suggested by your doctor. Go ahead and get the surgery done. Recurrence chances are one percent.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
