What happens if the cut is not sutured after frenuloplasty?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had frenuloplasty a few days back. After making the cut, the doctor did not put any stitches or surgical glue and kept the cut open. There is now a diamond-shaped wound mark of the cut frenulum. Is it fine to leave the cut open? I saw on the internet that the cut is generally sutured. What about the cosmetic look? I have attached the picture of the cut.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, the cut must have been closed immediately. Now after passing more than six hours, you cannot close it. My suggestion is to continue with dressing twice daily with saline, and it will heal. But it will take a long time for about three weeks. You will need to go back to the doctor, if the area gets infected, you will get a green or yellow discharge. If you have any more queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

What about the cosmetic look? What difference will it be having if it was closed as compared to now?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If it was closed early, it would take a very short time to heal with a smaller scar, and the chances of the infection will be lesser. Now, this can take longer, and the scar might be bigger but should be alright with time.

Kind regards.
