How to treat severe broken tooth pain besides extraction?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having severe pain in one of my lower molars for a week, which is broken and is falling off in pieces. I do not want to get it removed due to fear of pain. What else can be done?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am sorry for your complaint. Well, you have not stated for how long you have been experiencing the pain. Also, try to elaborate on the nature of the tooth pain, for example, whether is it on and off type, persistent, etc. Probable cause can be decay or tooth fracture. The probable diagnosis is pulpitis. The treatment plan includes extraction or RCT (root canal treatment). Preventive measures include avoiding using that side while chewing, to prevent food lodgement. Gargle frequently to remove any deposits that might have settled inside the crown structure.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
