Can swimming pool water cause small wounds on foreskin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am male 40 years old, 6 feet 1 inch and 220 pounds. I have small wounds in my foreskin and it is red in color (looks irritated). I am guessing that the cause is our swimming pool party a few days back and I was unable to take a shower afterwards. I guess that the dried and concentrated chlorine caused some irritation and wounding in my penis foreskin (I am not circumcised). It is not really painful unless pulling back the foreskin, I have used some Aloe Vera on it but I was wondering what would help fastest for the irritation to be gone. I do not have any pain while urinating.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the history and description. I have seen the image you have attached (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Possibility of infection is more likely. So apply Betadine cream three times a day. Please let me know: Do you have any difficulty in passing urine? Any pain or burning while passing urine? or Any fever? Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your answer. The answer to the questions is no difficulty and pain while urination, and no fever.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

All answers are no. So possibility of infective ulcer is less likely. Are you taking any painkiller or Paracetamol? Did you masturbate violently or had passionate sexual intercourse in between? I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am not taking any painkiller, but I just finished antibiotic medicine (Co-amoxiclav) because of sinusitis. No masturbation or sex.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

So in my opinion, you should apply Betadine ointment three times a day. Avoid tight fitted jeans. Wear cotton pants. Avoid tight undergarments. Do not wear undergarments at night while sleeping. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated. This will probably heal in one to two weeks time. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
