Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
For a few years, I believe I have had Fordyce spots which are usually very small and do not cause me any issue; however, a few of them seem to have become inflamed and look very nasty and unappealing. It is hurting my sex life, and I am unsure what to do. Finally, I had a sexually transmitted infection (STI) test, and the results were negative. I was wondering if I could include a picture of the spots to get a medical opinion? Kindly suggest me.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. I have reviewed your attachments (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). It is the sebaceous glands that are enlarged a bit. No treatment is required. But if you want to get rid of them, you will have to go to a dermatologist and get them removed. Creams and tablets would not reduce their size. I hope this helps. Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello,
Thank you for the response, doctor. Are they ever likely to go away on their own or reduce in size naturally? Also, what about bichloroacetic acid or trichloroacetic acid? I have heard these are sometimes effective at reducing their size, or is this a myth? Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
There might be a minor increase or decrease in size. However, do not expect too much. Bi or tri chloroacetic acid melts the skin and thus can open the bump. But it has a chance of irritating the skin. Kindly get it checked with a physician. Thank you.
