I have itchy and pus filled bumps on my head. What are they?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have itchy and painful pus-filled bumps on my head. I think it is folliculitis. I consulted two doctors. The first doctor told me to take Levocetirizine tablet 5 mg once a day and also suggested to use Nadoxin gel on the affected spots. I did this for a month. But my problem remained the same. I had flare-ups once in four days. The second doctor told me to use Betadine on the spots and suggested me to use Azithromycin 250 mg for four days. It got reduced, and then, it restarted again after four days. My condition got worsened for the past one week, and my scalp is hurting a lot. For shampooing, I use Biotique bio neem and Ketoconazole Keraglo on alternate days. Please help.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

I have gone through the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Yes, it is folliculitis. I suggest you take tablet Augmentin 625 mg (Amoxycillin with Clavulanic acid) thrice daily, for a week. Also, I recommend you apply a topical antibacterial such as Mupirocin 2 % ointment, T Bact 2 % ointment (Mupirocin) twice daily.

Thank you for consulting me.
