Why am I having flank pain on the left side along with abdominal pain and constipation?

Hi doctor,

About a week ago, I had UTI and I did not take any antibiotics instead, I only did herbal treatment. Four days back, I started feeling flank pain on my left side. It is also accompanied by slight abdominal pain and constipation. I also had this pain when I had got kidney infection earlier but it was on the right side.

What should I do?

I have read your concern in detail and I will surely help you out. The first thing you need to do is to get an ultrasound of the abdomen. This is to find out if your UTI (urinary tract infection) is spreading and reaching the kidneys or not, as untreated UTI can lead to swelling in the kidneys causing the pain. Apart from this, get urine routine microscopy and urine culture. Meanwhile, start antibiotics while the reports are awaited.

Take the tablet Nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice daily for seven days.
Take the tablet Levoflox (Levofloxacin) 750 mg once a day for five days.

These antibiotics will work as damage control. I do not want to scare you, but just discussing the possibilities with you. The picture will get clearer only after getting the reports. You can share the reports with me. Do not worry. All this is easily treatable and you will be fine in maximum of 15 days.
