Will fingering during shower lead to pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had fingered (inserted my finger) my fiancee in the shower (hot water). I touched my penis twice but I did wash it too with bathing soap. There may be precum which I may have touched. But I washed it once as I said. It was her 14th day from the first day of her period. Is there any risk of her getting pregnant? Kindly suggest, do I need to panic?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There is no need to panic as the chances of pregnancy are minimal as you have already cleaned your penis with soap and water. Pre-cum sperms once they come in contact with the soap, they get denatured due to chemical reaction. However, as she is in her fertile period and to allay the chances and be safe, she can opt for an emergency contraceptive pill like an Ipill within next 72 hours to avoid any chances of pregnancy. She would get a withdrawal bleed in the next 4 to 5 days which shall indicate that she is pregnancy safe.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

What if we do not want to go ahead with an emergency contraceptive pill since she has problems with those kinds of pills. Anything else could be done? What is the earliest date we can check with pregnancy test kit? Any kind of blood test possible which can indicate it? Sorry, but I am worried a lot.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The chances of conception are low considering the circumstances. However, ECP (emergency contraceptive pill) is still the best. The next option would be to opt for an intrauterine contraceptive device like Copper-T within five days of intercourse to avoid unplanned pregnancy. The earliest you can learn about pregnancy would be after eight days post intercourse or a sexual act with a blood-based serum beta hCG test. If the hCG levels are less than 3mIU/mL (after eight days), then she is surely and conclusively not pregnant as hCG levels rise in conception.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can she test with pregnancy test kit anytime before period? Do ECP pills hamper fertility in long run or are safe since it has lots of hormones packed?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Urine pregnancy test is reliable only after seven days post missed periods. So it cannot be done before missing periods. ECP can be taken once but not more than once in a cycle because it can change the menstrual pattern completely and can often cause heavy bleeding.
