Can uterine fibroids affect the delivery of the fetus?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

As per ultrasound reports of ninth-week, there is a fibroid in the lower uterus, and in the 20th-week pregnancy, there is sub serous fibroid of 3*3 cm at the lower uterine segment projected into the bladder and low-lying anterior grade 1 into os also an observation was made is low lying anterior placenta into os and there is a ss fibroid projecting into bladder in the lower uterine segment. What are the chances of the baby being delivered safe and sound? Will this fibroid contribute any bad effect on the baby or the baby's growth in the uterus? What precautions need to be taken so that there is no or minimum harm to the baby because of this fibroid or anterior low-lying placenta? Any additional comment or advice would be highly appreciated.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. As the fibroid is subserosal means it is not in direct contact with the uterine cavity and it would not interfere with pregnancy, so no need to worry about that. But as there is a low-lying placenta so you should take extra care in such situations, and avoid heavy weight lifting, strenuous work, and rough journeys. You should maintain your hemoglobin level at more than 10 because during the delivery there would be more chances of blood loss, so as a precaution you should maintain your hemoglobin level. Whenever you notice any abdominal cramps or spotting or bleeding then you should immediately consult with your gynecologist. I hope you have done an anomaly scan as you are on the 20th week. I hope this information helps you, feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
