Why does my sister have persistent fever despite taking typhoid and urinary infection medications?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My sister has recently got typhoid and a urine infection. We consulted a doctor, who recommended the course Zestum 1.5 mg antibiotic injections for five days. He gave two types of injections for a two-day course for urine infection. The course is completed, but she still has a fever. And on the CBC test, her platelet count is high. Does this cause fever? Please give some suggestions. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the reports that you have sent (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), it looks like a bacterial infection. I would suggest a blood culture, urine routine, urine culture, and chest X-ray be done. I would also like to see the initial laboratory reports where the patient was diagnosed with UTI (urinary tract infection) and typhoid. The patient also has severe anemia. Please send all the above records, and I will be able to give my opinion. Thank you.
