What are the possible causes of infectious mononucleosis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a running low fever of 99.2 degrees Celsius for two months. CBC and ESR are normal. Bilirubin was slightly high. Creatinine was somewhat elevated—CT scan of chest, abdomen, and pelvis normal. ANA test was negative. EBV DNA PCR positive (detected). No swollen lymph nodes are present. There is mild body pain, throat irritation, and tiredness. The previous doctor has interpreted it as infectious mononucleosis. Does it last so long, and how soon will it end?

Thanks.

I understand your concern.

Have you started the medicines? Yes, infectious mononucleosis can last for two months. Please get yourself tested for tuberculosis with a QuantiFERON Gold test as soon as possible.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
