How to manage high fever and loss of appetite?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been running high fever for the past four days. I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow, but I just want an idea of what it could be. It has been as high as 104.5 degrees Fahrenheit. I have been taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen every four hours. My appetite has decreased as well.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The other history, regarding abdominal pain, common cold, vomiting, skin rash, etc, needs to be taken. His physical examination also needs to be done.

I suggest you do the following tests:

  1. Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) or alanine aminotransferase (ALT) estimation.

  2. Complete blood count (CBC) with peripheral smear examination.

  3. Serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT).

According to reports, further management plans will be decided.

The causative treatment should be done If a specific cause is found.

Until then, I advise you to do the following:

  1. Tablet Paracetamol (analgesic and antipyretic) 500 mg to be taken as needed.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take proper guidance.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
