What are the symptoms of HIV seroconversion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Three weeks ago, I had a sexual encounter with a sex worker. I had protective vaginal sex with a condom, and she performed unprotected oral sex on me. After five days, I had headaches, and after seven days, I had a bad gum infection, which is going off with antibiotics. I do have chronic gum problems like receding gums and gingivitis. I had a swollen lymph node on the back of my head for five days, and it went down. Now, I am getting fever-like symptoms. My body and head feel very hot, but the temperature is between 36 and 36.8 degrees Celsius when I check. With the body heat, I have a headache and feel sick. This fever-like symptom only happens during the day. In the evening, no fever-like signs, and I sleep well at night with no fever, night sweats, or body aches. This pattern has now been happening for the past week. Is this HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) seroconversion? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. As the window period starts on the third week, it can not be HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). You already had gingivitis, which may cause some symptoms, and winter exacerbated them. Consult with your specialist and take the treatments. Overall, you had protected sex, and you are safe.

I hope you find it helpful.

Thanks and regards.
