Does injury during oral sex warrant an HIV test?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had oral sex with an unknown married female. She was sucking my penis, and after some time, she became aggressive and bit the foreskin on my penis. A small drop of blood came out of my glans penis. Should I go for an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) test? Also, which test should I take?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the query. I understand your concern. The chances of transmission of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) by a single, unprotected, oral sex with an HIV-positive person is almost nil unless there are bleeding wounds in the oral cavity. Also, if she is HIV-negative, there is no chance of transmission. I suggest you consult your doctor for further risk assessment and management. I hope this helps.

Thank you.
