This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My elder brother is recently suffering from anorexia and loss of appetite. His blood sugar level is normal and BP is normal too. Grade 1 fatty changes in liver, renal calculi 3.1 mm in size in right calyx, 216 mg of cholesterol and serum TG is high. What will be the remedy for this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Fatty liver associated with high cholesterol in case of your brother. Can you tell me how much triglycerides level is increased? Lifestyle modification is needed for fatty change. Udiliv (Ursodeoxycholic acid) tablet can be prescribed. Take low fatty foods, fruits juices more, green leafy vegetables more, saturated fatty meals, pizza, burger, fast foods, etc., should be restricted.

Do not worry about fatty liver. It is a common condition. Bring your cholesterol level low by diet modification. With more water, calculi will mostly be excreted in urine. If not then further workup has to be planned. As anorexia is present, check thyroid problem by serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) estimation. If any other inflammation present in the body then should be evaluated.

Take care.
