How can I manage facial hair and acne I’ve had for 5 years?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had facial hair, acne, and pore problems for the past five years. I have tried almost everything, but have not had good results. I am currently using E-dox DT, Isotretinoin 10 mg. I have done a blood test.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and reviewed the attached photographs (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

I can understand your concern, but your problem seems to be hormone-related. I suggest you get these tests done, such as thyroid function tests, serum testosterone levels, serum dehydroepiandrosterone, serum prolactin levels, fasting insulin levels, and an ultrasound of the pelvis to rule out PCOD (polycystic ovary syndrome).

Meanwhile, I suggest you start with tablet Minoz OD (Minocycline Hydrochloride) 100 mg once daily at night, Tracnil sachet (Myoinositol, folic acid, and vitamin D) twice daily. Use Facecare facewash (niacinamide and licorice root extract) twice daily and Epiduo gel (adapalene and benzoyl peroxide) on the pimples at bedtime for 30 minutes, and then wash it off with plain water. Continue this for four weeks and revert.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have taken ultrasound, thyroid, and insulin tests, and they are all normal. There is no PCOD problem.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Then you can start with these medicines and revert after four weeks. If possible, go for sessions of chemical peel. It will help in hastening recovery.

Kind regards.
