Do erectile dysfunction medications treat the condition permanently, or will it recur after stopping the medicines?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 26 year old sexually inactive male. I used to have everyday masturbation habits and erections like an average guy. Since last year, I have had erectile dysfunction after a small accident. As I do not have diabetes, abnormal stress, anxiety, and obesity, doctors claim my erectile dysfunction is physiological. Last month I was prescribed Tentex tablets which caused artificial erections. And too, only 70 % hard as compared to before the accident. When the medicine was stopped, I was back to square one. Right now, I have been prescribed another tablet. I do not want the same experience that Tentex provided. Can you advise if the pills will solve the root cause of erectile dysfunction permanently or give fake erections till I am on the dose?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Usually, spinal trauma could result in loss of erection, and I guess your accident was not such bad. In most cases, erectile dysfunction occurs due to psychological reasons. If your erection is persistently poor, please talk to your doctor and get serum testosterone and prolactin levels done. This should rule out hormonal causes. If that becomes normal, then no need to get worried.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
