What does an eosinophil count of 11 % mean?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What do eosinophils of 11 % mean if WBC count and RBC count are normal and hemoglobin is a little low?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query

I understand your concern. Your eosinophils are high as compared to the normal range. Normally it should be up to 6%. High eosinophil could be due to allergy inflammation most commonly like allergic rhinitis, asthma, etc. Parasitic infestation and skin problems like eczema also can lead to high eosinophils. Low hemoglobin could be due to iron deficiency anemia for which I suggest you investigate with an iron profile and peripheral smear examination.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
