This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I will start getting Lupron injections for endometriosis. Will I still get my periods every month? What are the common side effects of Lupron? If I experience side effects like nausea or diarrhea, will the doctor prescribe any medications for that?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is the hormone that stimulates the brain and increases secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormones that reduces production of estrogen hormone helpful for endometriosis symptoms. It can stop menses but it is not contraceptive so you can have a pregnancy with it. So be alert and have condoms if you do not want to conceive. You can have generalized body symptoms like paresthesia, nervousness, depression, anxiety, decreased libido, epistaxis, pharyngitis, pulmonary edema, arrhythmia, hyper or hypotension, increase appetite or anorexia, acidity, dry mouth, etc. But all these side effects among less than 5 % of user who used the drug for three months. You can give symptomatic treatment for digestive system upset like antiemetic Cyclizine 50 mg as per need can be taken eight hourly. Have plenty of water to hydrate yourself. A healthy nutritious diet with exercise daily. Strict check on symptoms and keep in contact with the treating doctor. Note how much benefit you are getting with medicine to discuss with your doctor.
