Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had bleeding for one week and five days after the last day of my period. And on the last day of my period, I took emergency contraceptive pills because we had sex without penetration inside. I feared I might get pregnant, so I took pills immediately.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Emergency pills are most effective when taken as soon as possible after the incident, ideally within 24 hours, but can be effective up to 72 hours after intercourse, depending on the specific type of emergency contraceptive used.

Taking emergency contraceptive pills can sometimes disrupt your menstrual cycle, causing irregular bleeding or spotting. The bleeding you experienced one week and five days after your last period may result from taking the pills, and it is not uncommon for such bleeding to occur after using emergency contraceptives.

If you are concerned about pregnancy, the only way to confirm whether you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test. You can do this at home using over-the-counter pregnancy tests.

Feel free to contact me for further queries.

Thank you.
