Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a sportsperson. I like to train hard and heavy like weight-lifting and bodybuilding. I took a blood test two weeks ago, and the doctor told me I have high CK and cholesterol levels. I retook a blood test a few days ago, and my CK was normal, but my cholesterol level is still high. My question is can I train hard as I like to train hard? Another question is I am going to travel, and it is difficult to make food there. What can I eat? Please tell some suggestions as I am thinking about my cholesterol level. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. CK (Creatine kinase) is a nonspecific enzyme that can be raised in the case of skeletal muscle injury like heavy isometric and weight training. Regarding cholesterol levels, it depends whether bad cholesterol or LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is high or good cholesterol or HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is high. Please send me reports so that I can guide you accordingly. Yes, you can train hard, provided you do not have severe muscular pain. Hope this helps.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
I have sent you my blood reports. Please check.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. According to the attached reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), your LDL (low-density lipoprotein) level is 5.9 mmol/L which is equal to 228 mg/dl. At this level, lipid-lowering medicines are necessary. I suggest you take tablet Rosuvastatin 10 mg daily. But before that, I suggest you take liver function tests (LFT) as your LFTs are deranged. After starting Rosuvastatin, repeat LFTs in one to two weeks. Hope this helps.
