How to restore teeth in those with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and her teeth have become loose and are falling one by one. The dentist has recommended her to get her teeth removed and get artificial teeth. He suggested implants and said her bone height and gum conditions are good for implants, but I fear she might get uncontrollable bleeding due to the syndrome? Can she undergo implants with this syndrome?

Answered by Dr. Naveen Thomas

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I do not think implants are a good idea. When natural teeth are falling off on their own due to gum problems, then the implant will definitely fail. So it would be best if she only have removable complete dentures.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
