What is causing my prolonged fatigue and sleepiness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 34-year-old male. I have felt tired and sleepy all the time for three months now. I lost weight from 165.34 to 154.32 lbs. Sometimes I feel exhausted in the chair at work in seconds. I cannot keep my eyes open. I am not suffering from any other disease or taking any medication.

Kindly guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The symptoms you described are commonly seen in thyroid diseases, diabetes, anemia, drug-induced, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is less common given your age and weight (more common in the elderly and obese). Since you mentioned you do not take any medication, I will keep the possibility of drug-induced out of the picture. Regarding thyroid disorders, anemia, and diabetes, I would suggest getting thyroid function tests, complete blood count, and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) tests to evaluate these diseases.

I would also suggest tablet Modalert (Modafinil) 100 mg early morning at 7 a.m. to increase your alertness and decrease excessive sleep. You will feel much better. Apart from this, you can follow up after you get your reports for further evaluation and treatment.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.
