Can Quetiapine cause excess sleep?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I find myself sleeping excessively, approximately 10 to 11 hours per night. I have been taking QPIN S 400 once at night after meals for the past eight months, and even after reducing the dose to 300 mg, my sleep pattern persists. I am also experiencing dry mouth and headaches. Could this be medication-related, and what remedies do you recommend for my issues? Kindly guide.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Currently, you are taking Quetiapine, an antipsychotic known for its sedative effects. Considering your long-term struggle with depression, it is essential to note that Quetiapine may not be the most suitable option for treating depression. There are several antidepressants available with fewer sedative effects that could be more beneficial. I suggest gradually decreasing your medication dose to alleviate sedation.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
