Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 24-year-old female. My eyes often feel dry, gritty, and uncomfortable, especially in the evenings or when working on a computer for extended periods. My eyes have occasional redness, which I assume is related to dry eyes. I also experience a burning or itching sensation in my eyes. I have tried using over-the-counter artificial tears, but the relief is often temporary. I am concerned about the impact of these symptoms on my daily life and overall eye health.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Dry eye disease is common when your tears cannot provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. Tears can be inadequate and unstable for many reasons. For example, dry eyes may only happen if you produce enough or good-quality tears. This tear instability leads to inflammation and damage to the eye's surface. Dry eyes feel uncomfortable. If you have dry eyes, your eyes may sting or burn. You may experience dry eyes in certain situations, such as on an airplane, in an air-conditioned room, while riding a bike, or after looking at a computer screen for a few hours. Treatments for dry eyes may make you more comfortable. These treatments can include lifestyle changes and eye drops. You will likely need to take these measures indefinitely to control the symptoms of dry eyes.
