What are the side effects of Diazepam?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 5 feet 9 inches and 22-year-old male weighing 165.35 pounds. I want to ask if Diazepam decreases dopamine levels. I got this information from social media. And I am wondering if it is true. I am taking it because of a moment I had. At that moment, my heart was beating extremely fast, and my back felt weird. I was also very worried, and it felt like I was going to die. That moment happened because of something that happened to me four years back. Someone told me something, and I did not want the things he told me to be true. I did not want to believe it was true, but I could not get it out of my head. It also changed the way I see things. I am not able to disprove the things he said in my head, so it has been bothering me constantly. It caused the moment that made my heart beat very fast and also made my body shake. I do not want to live like this till the day I die. I told a psychiatrist about this, and he prescribed me some drugs. I did not want to take the drugs because the side effects were too dangerous, so he prescribed me the Diazepam. I am asking about it. I am supposed to take one at night for one week. I am too afraid to take it because I think it would permanently change my brain. Is this true? Would Diazepam affect my dopamine levels? Would it permanently change me even if I took it for a week?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It is not true. Diazepam, for a short duration, will not change anything in the brain. It will not change anything permanently if you take it for one or two months. Diazepam will not affect your dopamine level.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
