What causes leg pain after taking loose motion medicine?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had pain in my leg for two days and I am 20 years old. I had loose motions about five to six times a day, then I took medicine that day and started to have leg pain the next day. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. This pain seems to be related to a reduction in electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and calcium. I suggest you to take

1. Tablet Shelcal (Calcium and Vitamin D3) 500 mg, morning and night for 30 days before food.

2. Tablet Vitamin D 60000 units once daily for ten days and then once a month for 11 months.

Take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them. Drink lots of water and fresh lime juice if possible. I hope this will help you.

Thank you.

Probable diagnosis

Muscle pain due to electrolyte imbalance after diarrhea.

Preventive measures

Take tablet Paracetamol 500 mg, if pain is severe (after food).

Regarding follow up

Only if needed.
